Bathurst City Guide
Located about 200 km west of Sydney, Bathurst has a rich history. It's Australia's oldest inland settlement and it also played host to the gold rush of the 1800's. Today, you can see pieces of its history all over town!
Just by walking around town, you can see several architectural masterpieces that are ingrained with history. One of the most popular is the Chifley Home. It once belonged to former Australian Prime Minister Ben Chifley, but today, it's open to the public. As soon as you walk inside, you'll feel like you've stepped back in time!
If you want to go back even further in time, check out the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum. A favourite of locals and visitors alike, the museum is home to a stunning collection of artefacts and even an entire dinosaur skeleton!
If you want to get your adrenaline racing, head to the Mount Panorama Motor Racing Circuit. Considered to be one of the top racing venues in the world, Mount Panorama is a unique sight. It's located in a very rural area - and there are even private houses inside the circuit!
If you want to combine Bathurst's history with great food, head to Cobblestone Lane. Located on George Street, this restaurant is one of the oldest in town. Inside, you will find a combination of historic charm and gourmet goodies.
Most of the hotels in Bathurst are centrally-located - with the biggest assortment located on William Street. If you decide to stay at one of them, you will be able to walk to Machattie Park and Bicentennial River Park.
