Bendigo City Guide
Right in the middle of Victoria, you'll find Bendigo - a city that combines the latest trends with old-world charm. Ever since the gold rush, Bendigo has been a favourite for visitors!
Because of its "golden" past, no trip to Bendigo is complete without visiting the Central Deborah Gold Mine.
You'll be given a hard hat and a lamp and sent more than 60 metres underground to see what life was really like during the gold rush!
After the rush, be sure to head back into the sunshine and tour the city in style - in a vintage car.
You'll be able to marvel at the historic architecture while the wind blows through your hair. Then, have your car drop you off at one of the local antique shops to cap everything off!
Another big part of Bendigo's history is its Chinese influence. The Chinese have been settling in Bendigo since it was first established. A day at the Golden Dragon Museum will show you exactly how the Orient has influenced Bendigo.
If you're in town for Easter, you'll get to see the Bendigo Easter Festival - Australia's longest-running annual festival. From Good Friday through Easter Sunday, Bendigo comes alive for three days with parades, family activities, and even fundraising efforts.
As you might expect, Chinese food is very popular in Bendigo. For the best variety, head to Midland Highway and Mitchell Street.
Here, there are a number of restaurants within a block or two, and some places even offer Malaysian food, too!
Because of its history, a lot of the accommodation in Bendigo is located in heritage buildings. Inside, though, they offer all of the modern conveniences you'd expect.
The City centre offers a huge variety of hotels that can fit into virtually any budget. Bed and breakfasts are also very popular in Bendigo, and they're proud to offer historic charm.
