Katoomba Guide
As the most visited town in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Katoomba is a scenic mountain destination only an hour from Sydney that draws native Australians and international tourists all year round.
The Three Sisters at Echo Point is perhaps Katoomba's most popular landmark. The stunning rock formation juts out high above a valley and is brightly lit at night for a breathtaking effect. For the adventuresome, a walk down the famous Giant Stairway - all 800 steps - and the challenging Six Foot Track trail through caves and past Boonie Doon Falls are both highly recommended.
Take the little ones on a joy ride on the famed Scenic Railway, the steepest railway incline in the world and one of Australia's most popular man-made tourist attractions. You'll pass by Orphan Rock, through a tunnel and along a stunning cliff face. While you're there, take a ride on the Scenic Cableway through the Greater Blue Mountains rainforest, or on the glass floored Scenic Skyway.
There is an impressive variety of accommodation available in Katoomba. One of the best ways to experience the area and plenty of local hospitality is to book a stay in a quaint bed and breakfast or a cosy mountain cottage. Katoomba is located on the train line and Leura, not far away, has additional accommodation.
