Geelong City Guide
Geelong is a charming city right at the gateway to the Bellarine Peninsula and the Great Ocean Road. It's just one hour from Melbourne and is Victoria's oldest city. However, Geelong also has plenty of modern appeal - like stunning waterfront shops, restaurants, and public art showings.
You can get a history lesson in wool harvesting, manufacturing, and more at Geelong's National Wool Museum. There's four galleries, a gift and souvenir shop, and even a licensed restaurant!
Geelong is the perfect place to take a long walk. Walking trails and tours are all over the area to ensure you don't miss any key attractions. It's the best way to see the city!
You'll also find Victoria's first water-themed park in Geelong, Adventure Park. It features 22 rides and attractions to entertain adults and children of all ages. When you're done, finish the off with a barbecue and a game of mini golf.
If art is your thing, Geelong showcases public art along its beautiful waterfront that you won't want to miss. Be sure to check out the Geelong Art Gallery. The permanent collection includes 19th and 20th century Australian and European art and 18th and 19th century English porcelain.
You can't see it all on foot, but Geelong's wine region stretches from the surf coast to the volcanic plains. There are over 50 wineries to choose from including the well awarded McGlashan Estate.
If you're back in town and hungry, stop at a cafe or restaurant along the waterfront at the Eastern Beach Pavilion.
Pakington Street is another great option for delicious Italian, Thai, Chinese or Indian cuisine. Stop by Pakington Street's most popular bars - The Barking Dog or the Cremorne Hotel. If you want more great wine, you'll find it here, too!
If you want to stay close to the water, there are good deals on Western Beach, Eastern Beach, or Melbourne Road. Moorabool Street and Malop Street are also good options near the water.
If you want to stay in the centre of the city, look for accommodation on Barrabool Road, Shannon Avenue, or High Street.
