Great Ocean Road Region Guide
There's simply nothing in the world like the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. This winding, 243 km road will take you along the edge of the southern Australian coastline where the cliffs meet the ocean.
Along the way you'll discover countless adventures - from shipwrecks, to sights that will leave you breathless.
As you make your way down the road, you will see several amazing sights. The most famous is 12 Apostles - 12 statues that were carved naturally by the ocean and the wind. You're doing yourself a real disservice if you don't get out and take a look!
If you love mystery mixed with adventure, hop on the Shipwreck Trail. With over 60 shipwrecks along the southern coast, you'll be sure to find an adventure waiting for you. While some companies offer walking tours, others will offer you underwater tours of certain shipwrecks.
For a unique sight - and a fun lesson in Australian history - head to the Tower Hill State Game Reserve. It lies inside a dormant volcano! Here you'll find a vast array of animals and insects - along with fascinating little nuggets of Australian history.
As you might expect, there are plenty of places to stay along Great Ocean Road.
If you fall in love with the 12 Apostles, you can stay there! The 12 Apostles Hotel and Spa is within walking distance to the statues, and only 15 minutes from local shopping. Secluded on a hillside, the rooms come with large windows facing the ocean.
Whether you come by car or by backpack, you'll be welcome at the Historic Continental Hotel in Sorrento. It prides itself on being backpacker-friendly. It also offers some great nightlife, thanks to its restaurant, bar, and nightclub.
Not far off the Great Ocean Road in Mornington you'll find the chic Royal Hotel. Luckily, it has rooms priced for both the thrifty and those looking for more luxurious accommodation.
