Hamilton Island Guide
Off the north east coast of Australia, you’ll find Hamilton Island, a small island geared toward water sports and tourism.
Three top things to do on Hamilton Island include water sports, golfing, and eco-tourism.
- Whale watching is particularly attractive between July and September of each year.
- Toward the end of every August, the area hosts the annual Hamilton Island Race Week Yachting Festival. Visitors can see top-rated yachters race while still working on that perfect tan.
- Another favourite is playing a round at the Hamilton Island Golf Club, a par-71 course that will challenge all golfers.
The Summer Festival on Hamilton Island is held from mid-December to mid-January each year and offers something fun for every member of the family. Daily music, cooking contests, a bartender contest, appearances by Santa and his elves, and a New Year’s street dancing party are just a few of the events that bring fun and festivities to the island. Day or night, there will be a wide range of activities for everyone during the Summer Festival.
Located near the Great Barrier Reef, the area offers eco-tourism options as well as a wide variety of boating, yachting, swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving. The lifestyle on Hamilton Island is extremely relaxed, with golf buggies being the primary mode of transportation. There is only one airport on the island.
Since the island was developed as a tourist destination, there is all manner of accommodation available. Five-star hotels, bed and breakfasts, along with cottages, apartments and bungalows all offer something special; your choice will just be the level of amenities you want. Almost all locations have fabulous views, either of the lush greenery on the island or the water that surrounds it. Some of the hotels offer complimentary golf buggies for guests, as well.
