Lismore City Guide
Home to both amazing landscapes and unique history, Lismore offers visitors an experience that you can't find anywhere else. And, thanks to mild temperatures, it's worth visiting this northern New South Wales town any time of the year!
Lismore and surrounding towns were once part of a rainforest called the 'Big Scrub'. Little of it remains, but you can see what's left at the Lismore Rainforest Botanic Gardens. Inside, you can see the flora and the wildlife in their natural habitat.
Lismore is also home to a thriving Aboriginal community that's been here for thousands of years. You can see some of their art all over town. The most popular place to check it out is at the Lismore Regional Gallery.
To experience some natural beauty, check out Minyon Falls. The Falls are made up of a cliff that was created by lava millions of years ago. The water falls more than 100 metres into a tree-lined gorge. While you can see the Falls from town, there are also picnic areas and walking trails, if you want to see them close-up.
More than 20,000 people take part in the annual Lismore Lantern Parade. Held in June - on the longest night of the year - the parade features light gardens, a carnival, and fireworks that take over the centre of town.
For excitement that the entire family will enjoy, head to the Lismore Speedway. Between November and April, the speedway is home to several New South Wales championship events. The speedway hosts cars that are new and old, big and small - from four cylinder sedans, to V8's and even dwarf cars.
Lismore is home to several parks and many of the hotels in town overlook them. For the best views, try finding a room on either Dawson Street or Woodlark Street.
