Melbourne Cricket Ground, V.I.C.
Melbourne Cricket Ground was built in 1853 and has established itself as a significant part of Australia's history. Over the years thousands of international cricket games have been held here, including the first-ever Test and the 1992 World Cup final, along with VFL-AFL Grand Finals, and the Olympic Games in 1956. Other famous sporting events held at the grounds include the Australian World Cup soccer qualifiers and the 2006 Commonwealth Games. With its reputation as a leading multi-purpose stadium many large-scale concerts are held here and Pope John Paul II said a mass here in 1986. Don't miss the collection of memorabilia which has some priceless pieces from Australian sporting history. The MCG also houses the new National Sports Museum where you can learn about the history of Australia's oldest sporting clubs and the stadium itself.
