Mission Beach City Guide
Whether you want a fun trip with the kids or a relaxing getaway with your sweetheart, Mission Beach is the perfect place to do it. Linked by four beach villages - South Mission Beach, Wongaling Beach, North Mission Beach and Bingil Bay - Mission Beach offers nature that's completely unspoiled.
Making it even more exciting - Mission Beach is one of only a very small number of places on earth where you can see two World Heritage Areas!
Mission Beach is home to both the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics rainforests, and you will be remiss if you don't spent time at both of them.
Mission Beach is actually the closest spot on the mainland to the Reef - making it the perfect place to dive or snorkel and see all of the endangered animals and all of the colourful coral.
The Reef actually backs into the Wet Tropics rainforests. Inside, you can see waterfalls, unique animals, and 19 different aboriginal tribes that call the rainforest home.
If you simply want to enjoy the water, you can rent your own charter boat or kayak for the day. You can opt for either a boat with a tour, or a boat that you take out by yourself.
For a look at "man-made nature", head to Paronella Park. Created by Jose Paronella back in 1935, the park features waterfalls, tropical plants, and even a castle! You can tour the park during the day or after dark. You can even spend the night in the cabins or in the campground!
Virtually all of the hotels in Mission Beach can be found along Porter Promenade. There's also another clump of hotels further south, near Wongaling Beach Road.
If you're looking for something secluded, book a room on the north side of town - near Clump Lookout Road.
