Mount Gambier Guide
Mount Gambier stands on top of what once was a volcano. What were once craters are now lakes. Whether you want to hit the water or stay in town, Mount Gambier offers plenty to do!
The Crater Lakes are the perfect place for some outdoor activity or some much-needed R & R. Underground limestone has purified these lakes, making them totally unique. Depending on what time of year you visit, the Crate Lakes can be steel blue, turquoise, or some colour in between!
There's fun to be had below ground, too. Mount Gambier is home to more than half a dozen limestone caves and sinkholes. The most famous is Hells Hole. Some caves have guided tours, while you can explore others on your own.
If you want to work off some stress, Mount Gambier is the place to do it! Home to 5 gun clubs, 3 gun ranges, and 2 paintball complexes, Mount Gambier is a "shooter-friendly" place. Whether you like rifles, pistols or paintball guns, Mount Gambier has an activity for you.
Whether you want traditional seafood or kangaroo, you can feast on it at Bullfrogs Bar and Grill. There's also a full bar and live entertainment.
If you want a quiet place to relax after a long day, head to Sorrento’s Café. With its outdoor seating, Sorrento’s Café is a favourite of both locals and visitors.
If your family loves the great outdoors, then you will love the Myora Forest Reserve. Located just east of town, it's the perfect place to go hiking or mountain biking.
If you want to be within walking distance to Mount Gambier's most popular restaurants and shops, stay in the middle of town.
If you're looking for something more secluded, there are a few hotels near Olympic Park. As an added benefit, you'll only be a few minutes from the Crater Lakes.
