Port Macquarie City Guide
Port Macquarie is right at the mouth of the Hastings River and just 407 kilometres north of Sydney. This coastal resort city boasts some awesome extreme adventures, one-of-a-kind theme parks, and fabulous five-star beaches. Port Macquarie really does have it all!
Your trip won't be complete without getting some sun on one of Port Macquarie's five-star beaches. Be sure to try Town Beach at the front of the city centre, or North Beach on the far side of Hastings River. Either way, you won't be disappointed!
For some adventure, take a tour on a camel! Camel safaris travel along Lighthouse Beach. You may even see dolphins in the distance while you ride on these "ships of the desert."
Since it's at the mouth of the river, Port Macquarie is a water sports haven. Try deep-sea fishing, windsurfing, parasailing, and river cruising.
Around in April or May? That's usually when more than 1,500 competitors from around the world converge on Port Macquarie for the Ironman Australia Triathlon.
Or check out the Camden Haven music festival, usually held in April. Now called the Camden Haven Music Festival Inc, the organisation presents a small number of music events throughout the year, usually aligned with local, national and international occasions.
Bringing the kids along? Stop by Billabong Koala Wildlife Park. Check out the world renowned Koala Breeding Centre. Stop by Reptopia and have a look at the most venomous land snake on the planet.
Need some extreme adventure? Extreme Velocity is where you want to be. It's Australia's only outdoor vertical wind tunnel. Go skydiving without ever having to jump from a plane!
William Street offers some extravagant waterfront rooms - many rated five-star.
For a little less luxury, try a one of the motels on Hastings River Drive or Clarence Street. There are several smaller motels that'll offer lots of comfort at a lower rate.
If you're willing to stay a little further away from the beach, try Francis Street or Hill Street for more privacy at a cosy bed & breakfast retreat.
