Strahan Guide
Strahan is set on the bay of Macquarie Harbour in Tasmania. The area is famous for its Huon Pines, a very rare timber. Strahan is unique from most vacation destinations because of its wild landscape. It's a place where rare plants and amazing animals flourish. Expect the unexpected on your Strahan vacation!
If you want to see all of the natural beauty that Strahan has to offer, take a ride on the West Coast Wilderness Railway. You can experience the area's rainforest and river gorges up close.
For a yummy tour of the area, visit the Oyster Farm and take a winery tour at nearby Freycinet. Be sure to try the pinot noirs and chardonnays; they're famous here!
For a water adventure, take a wild, high-speed jet boat ride up the King River.
For a look at the local art, stop by Strahan Woodworks. This timber workshop and gallery features handcrafted pieces by Tasmanian artists. All the woodworks are made from the famous Huon Pine. Since the wood can only be found here, Strahan Woodworks gives you a great taste of the rich Tasmanian culture!
There is a lot of natural wilderness in this area. Take a wildlife tour at Cradle Mountain. Look for rare wonders like the swamp gum, the tallest flowering plant on Earth. You may also see the platypus and the echidna - the world's only egg-laying mammals. Be sure to look out for the Tasmanian Devil, too!
Deep in Macquarie Harbour, you might find the orange-bellied parrot - one of the rarest bird species in the world.
Look for comfy hotels and cosy cottages along Reid Street. Harvey Street also has a range of options with hotel, motel, and separate holiday apartment units. Look on Meredith Street and Orr Street for a variety of accommodation which are closer to the area's attractions.
