A custom-built concert venue seating 1200, City Recital Hall was constructed to reflect the 19th century European concert hall tradition. The acoustics are near-perfect, making this an incredible place to catch a live performance. Regular concerts are given by such esteemed companies as the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Musica Viva and the Australian Chamber Orchestra. Box office hours are 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday.
This large, grassy tract of land was established by Governor Phillip in 1788. Now administered by the Royal Botanic Gardens, The Domain is used by the lunchtime business crowd, families and visitors. There are numerous festivals and special events held there throughout the year, sculptures placed near the Art Gallery of New South Wales as well as around the grounds, and the always-entertaining Speakers’ Corner.
The Anthony Horden & Sons department store used to occupy this space, but now it is home to the World Square shopping plaza. The huge retail centre has numerous coffee shops, restaurants, sushi bars, a supermarket, a giant Rebel Sport outlet, and specialty stores where you can shop for shoes, accessories, fashion, house wares, electronics and more. World Square is open seven days a week and late on Thursdays.
