Darlinghurst Guide
Darlinghurst is located on just outside of the central Sydney city area, and is home to restaurants, bars and nightclubs.
Every year the annual Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras winds it's way up Oxford Street in Darlinghurst. This annual event has turned into a celebration of gay and lesbian rights in Australian society, and fittingly travels along this street which has for so long being synonymous with the gay and lesbian community. If you want to see the parade book accommodation early and plan your viewing platform. This is a hugely popular affair, and getting a view of the parade is far from easy.
Darlinghurst might not be as wild as Kings Cross, but it sure comes close. There's new small bars everywhere and great pubs, from the iconic gay venues to just the iconic. Head to the Beresford for an evening of drinking, dining and entertainment. Or stop in for a late night tipple with the converging crowds at The Columbian. No matter where you go, there'll be a story or two for the next day.
Diners are spoilt for choice in Darlinghurst. All types and varieties are catered for and when you take into account neighbouring Surry Hills this is a foodies paradise. For something different we recommend eating at Jazz City Diner: it's one of the few American diners in Sydney and serves great home cooked meals including burgers and sweet potato fries.
The residents of Darlinghurst generally also seem to prefer eating breakfast out, so there's a huge number of cafes in the suburb. One to try is Pablo's tucked into a small hole in the wall just off Crown Street on Goulburn Street.
Darlinghurst accommodation ranges from budget to high end, including boutique hotels. Views are available of both the city and of Oxford Street.
