Taronga Zoo

Don't leave Sydney without a day out to Taronga Zoo. Beautifully located on elevated land on the foreshore of Sydney's splendid harbour, Taronga Zoo houses more than 350 different species of animals from Australia's native species to a collection of exotic animals from across the world. Education officers take young and old nose to nose with the animals and teach about fauna, flora, eco-awareness and positive attitudes towards wildlife. Start your tour of the Zoo at the top entrance, walking downhill and facing Sydney Harbour. You will enjoy great views of the horizon and once you've reached the bottom, the Zoo Sky Safari chair lift will take you to the top again where you can begin a new downhill trek along a different path. See kangaroos and wallabies, with the opportunity to hand-feed them, visit a real working "animal kitchen" and see how all the food is prepared or go behind the scenes in the Australia's Nightlife House and enjoy encounters with nocturnal creatures.

 

Taronga Zoo opens daily between 9am and 5pm and you should take out at least 3-4 hours to fully enjoy everything Taronga Zoo has to offer its many visitors. Taronga Zoo is easily accessible by ferry (a 12-minute ride from Wharf 2, Circular Quay) or by bus (Bus 247 departs from Wynyard bus station to and from the Zoo's Main Entrance daily, it's a 30 minute one way trip).

 

If you are not staying on the north side of the harbour, then Circular Quay is a fantastic place to find a range of hotels, from 2 star to 5 star.
