Gothic revival style architecture can be enjoyed at Government House; the first Governor moved there in 1845. Set in five hectares of grounds, the gardens and house have been open to the public since 1996 and also host a huge range of community and cultural events. Managed by the Historic Houses Trust, Government House welcomes visitors to a ‘working State House’ as opposed to a museum.
Close to the Sydney Opera House are the breathtakingly beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens, a haven of peace amidst the hustle and bustle of vibrant Sydney city centre.
