Haymarket Library

If you’ve got a couple of hours to spare, head to the Haymarket Library, located at the intersection of Hay Street and George Street. The Victorian sandstone building was constructed in 1875 and features beautifully delicate floral carvings. Admission is free, and you can browse the stacks from 8:30am until 6pm Monday through Friday or from 10am until 4pm on Saturdays.

Taylor Square

This barely defined bit of paved earth on Oxford Street in Darlinghurst is the centre of gay nightlife in the precinct. Aside from great clubs and bars, you’ll find the impressive 1842 Greek Revival Darlinghurst Courthouse here, a now-closed but heritage-registered Edwardian underground toilet and some interesting fountains on the Surry Hills side of the square. The 380 bus route will drop you right at Oxford and Bourke Streets.

Tumbalong Park

Located on the southern edge of Darling Harbour, Tumbalong Park is a lovely, quiet spot to unwind in the great outdoors. Sunbathers and Frisbee-players dot the green lawns, while tourists and locals on lunch break dip their toes in the park’s fountains on steamy afternoons. There is a great playground area for kids and a small train that takes passengers for a quick ride around the park.

I wasn't impressed

I asked for a single bed with on suite and instead I was given a twin without on suite. The airconditioning wasn't working well either.

The price for a double room without bathroom is rather high although the hotel is located right in the city centre. Not good value for the money, btw it was very cold in the room and the heating did not work...

Good for cheap

This is an excelente place to stay in the center of the city! Near the subway, walking distance from downtown. It's clean, has breakfast included (very basic, but for the price is ok). I recommend it, I went back to the same place after travelling around Australia, that means i felt confortable. If you are not very picky here you have the basics for a good price and great location.

Y Hotel Hyde Park

I stayed at the Y from Nov. 9th to the 14th 2008 while attending a conference that was also held at the Y during this time. I stayed in a single room with bathroom facilities directly outside my room door.

The service afforded me was equivelant to other hotels I have previously stayed (e.g. Richmond Hotel, Adelaide - 4Star) and the staff were always friendly and helpful.

I received complementry continental breakfast for each day I stayed and I thoroughly enjoyed eating breakfast and conversing with different people each day.

The locality of the Y Hotel Hyde Park was excellant. I walked every night after dinner and was able to take in the opera house, hyde park, the city itself and a monorail ride as well as walking across and back the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Got some brilliant photo's.

I have no resevations what-so-ever in recommending the Y Hyde Park to other potential users and will definitely look to stay again should the need arise. Thank you.
