Just north of the centre of Christchurch, New Zealand, is the pleasant suburb of Merivale. It encompasses the northern borders of south Hagley Park, whose extensive woodlands include a section of the Avon River. The centre of Merivale houses a large shopping mall complete with boutiques, restaurants and bars.
