Bondi Beach Guide: Spend Less, Do More

Welcome to Bondi Beach

Bondi beach is one of the most famous beaches in the world. There's great surf for swimming and surfing, golden sand, and its popularity means it is teeming with life. Plus, staying in the suburb of the same name is an opportunity to enjoy Sydney beach life.

Not surprisingly Bondi Beach attracts loads of visitors every year. But don't think this is just a tourist destination. Bondi is a favourite with Sydney locals. During the week residents will be out in the morning or after work for a swim or to exercise along the boardwalk.

On the weekends, Sydney residents from suburbs away from the beaches flock to Bondi. Easy access by bus from Bondi Junction station makes it a popular beach choice, particularly for teenagers. Bondi is also a very popular location for travellers on Christmas and New Years Day, especially those from the United Kingdom. If the novelty of spending what would normally be a cold northern hemisphere holiday on a hot beach tempts you, just make sure you wear plenty of sunscreen.

Activities at Bondi beach are mostly centred on the pavilion, from surfing competitions and kite flying to galleries and festivals. The parkland and promenade backing the beach are full of rollerbladers, cyclists and skaters.

Bondi to Bronte walk

There is a spectacular ocean front walk which skirts the cliffs from Bondi Beach to Bronte Beach. The walk starts at the southern end of Bondi Beach and works it's way down the coast past Tamarama beach - colloquially referred to as 'Glamarama' - to Bronte beach. Each year Sculpture By The Sea is held with the sculptures located along the walk. The walk also continues on from Bronte to Coogee and beyond.

Eating and drinking

Restaurants at a variety of price points are available in Bondi Beach. Good picks include Iceberg's, Sean's Panorama, North Bondi Italian Food and Ravesi's. Wellington Cakes offers European desserts for those with a sweet tooth. Hungry for ribs? Head to Hurricane's.

Hotel Bondi is located on Campbell Parade with a view over the beach. The Beach Road Hotel features regular events and a bistro. The Corner House bar is located up the hill from the beach on Bondi Road - it's a good choice for cocktails and dining.

Bondi Beach Hotels

Staying at a Bondi Beach hotel is a treat. And no matter how good the hotel breakfast is, skip it and visit the beach early for a swim in the surf. Afterwards enjoy breakfast at one of the many cafes on Campbell Parade for breakfast. There is no better way to start the day. There is plenty of accommodation that suits every budget and ocean views are available.
