Fremantle
If you're looking for a vacation spot that combines interesting history with unique natural beauty, then Fremantle is the perfect place! Also known as "Freo", Fremantle has a colonial past, a harbour that serves as a major port, and beautiful limestone hills that you won't see anywhere else.
One of the most interesting things to do in Fremantle is to simply walk around and check out the architecture. Because the city sits on a series of limestone hills, many of the historic buildings are made out of the same material. On even a quick stroll, you'll see plenty of heritage buildings - including the Round House, Western Australia's oldest building. Also, be sure to check out the Fremantle Arts Centre.
If you're in town over the weekend, spend some time at the Fremantle Markets. This historic public market is interesting to look at, and it offers more than 150 different stalls. Fremantle also has water that you can enjoy - whether you want to go fishing or simply lay on the beach. The city is home to five different beaches, with Bathers Beach being the most popular for swimming.
A wide variety of cuisine is available in Fremantle with Italian, Asian, and seafood all being popular. Be sure to head to the "Cappuccino Strip" on South Terrace where you'll find plenty of restaurants where you can eat outside.
If you love live music, you will love the West Coast Blues 'n Roots Festival. Held every April at Fremantle Park, the festival showcases more than a dozen performers from all over the world.
The biggest variety of Fremantle hotels can be found on South Terrace. From there, it's only a few blocks to Fishing Boat Harbour. If you want to stay closer to Fremantle Park, there are a number of hotels on High Street.
