South East Pylon of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney, NSW 2000, Australia
One of the great landmarks of Sydney Harbour along with the Opera House, the 1150-metre-long Harbour Bridge links Sydney's southern and northern shores. The largest and heaviest steel arch in the world, it's dear to Sydneysiders' hearts for being the focus of harbour fireworks festivals. Other than admiring it from afar, you can walk along the pedestrian footpath on the eastern side or cycle across the cycleway on the western side.
You can also clamber up almost 200 stairs to the peak of the south-eastern Pylon Lookout for some amazing views over the harbour. There's also a fine museum with exhibits outlining the construction of the bridge. The truly adventurous can join a BridgeClimb up to the apex of the bridge itself.
