Along with its more famous Sydney cousins, Bondi and Manly, Balmoral Beach is well worth visiting. With views overlooking Sydney Harbour National Park, it is a great place for swimming and other leisure activities. Alternatively, relax and enjoy a picnic as you watch the sunset. In addition to a dedicated swimming area with showers and changing rooms, it is also a popular place for sailboarding, rollerblading and jogging.
Dawes Point Park, on Hickson Road in The Rocks, has to be one of the best places in the city to view the Sydney Harbour Bridge and surrounding area, as it lies beneath the bridge. This picturesque small park with its green lawns and palm trees was once the site of a military base used to defend the city from naval attack in the 18th century. Five original cannons from that time are on display today.
Sydney is well known for great shopping and the Glasshouse Shopping Centre is one of best places to discover what all the fuss is about. Located in the Pitt Street Mall on the corner of King Street, Glasshouse has three levels of stores with the emphasis on boutique and market-style shops selling unusual products from around the world. Late night shopping is available until 9pm on Thursdays.
