Toowoomba City Guide
Originally used for farming land back in the 1800's, Toowoomba is now Australia's second largest inland city! This southern Queensland gem features charming historic features and picture-perfect weather.
Thanks to its year-round pleasant temperatures, most of Toowoomba's activities are held outside.
The city lies at the edge of the Great Dividing Range, so Toowoomba offers great views of Table Top Mountain and the Lockyer Valley. In fact, they're views you have to see to believe!
Even if you don't make it inside, the Toowoomba Art Gallery Park is a must-see. It's full of sculptures and totems that fifteen aboriginal men produced in order to showcase Toowoomba in art-form.
Do yourself a favour, and have a meal at Picnic Point Park. It sits right on a peak of the Great Dividing Range, so you'll have quite a view to go with your meal! When you're done, take a stroll through the colourful landscaping.
Toowoomba is called the "Garden City" - and for good reason! Every September, the city hosts the Australian Carnival of Flowers. Originally held as a parade in 1949 to boost raise money after World War II, the festival today pays homage to flowers, food, and wine.
For a taste of history, check out the Spring Bluff Railway Station. It's no longer operational, but in the 1860's, it was the first railway station to connect Toowoomba to other cities. During the Carnival of Flowers, it offers train rides to the Toowoomba Railway Station, so you can see what it was like on the train back then!
The biggest assortment of hotels can be found in Toowoomba City, right in the middle of town.
As you might expect, many of the accommodation around town has a historic feel. The most popular is Vacy Hall, which sits on an acre of gardens and is within walking distance to most of the activities in town.
