Swansea Guide: Spend Less, Do More

Welcome to Swansea

Swansea Spiky BeachSwansea is one of Tasmania's oldest settlements, and it has some very well-preserved architecture that dates as far back as the 1830s! This quaint fishing port offers a peaceful, friendly atmosphere against the breathtaking backdrop of the Hazards Mountains. But it's also a fun seaside resort town with lots to see and do.

Things to do

Swansea boasts some fabulous beaches. At Kelvedon Beach, look for penguins. Mayfield Beach offers some great fishing. If you're simply looking for a great place to take a swim, you'll find it at Cressy Beach.

Swansea Spiky BridgeIf you want to see all of the historic architecture, take a walking tour. Along the way, you'll see colonial buildings like the Schouten House, Meredith House and Morris's General Store.

If you want to enjoy even more of 19th century Australia, head to the Bark Mill Museum. It's got a great tavern and bakery, too!

Food & Drink

Swansea offers some unique dining options that you won't find anywhere else. Luckily, the cuisine here is diverse, so you'll find something yummy - no matter what your taste buds are craving!

If you've got a sweet tooth, stop by Kate's Berry Farm and indulge in sweet cakes, Devonshire teas, jams, and berry wines.

You can enjoy a combination of Japanese cuisine and Tasmanian flare at Kabuki by the Sea. The view alone is well worth it!

Or, you can try the area's fresh seafood at popular places like Ebb Restaurant or View Point Restaurant.

Hotels and Accommodation

Everything from cosy cottages and convenient motor inns can be found along Franklin Street. Tasman Highway and Waterloo Road are other very good options. As an added benefit, all of them are very close to the coast. Also, consider nearby Coles Bay, near Freycinet National Park. There is also a big choice of accommodations along Swanwick Drive, Main Road or Coles Bay Road.
